~Winter Solstice~
This tutorial is for those who have working
knowledge with Paint Shop Pro & Jasc Animation Shop.
The animation in this tut is for advanced users and
this tutorial can be very difficult if you are new to paint shop.
*Scrap: this tutorial used Dianne’s “Winter
Solstice” kit.
Visit Dianne’s Blog, to shop with her stores and
see more of her creations here: Digicats (& Dogs).
*Tube: by artist Vinegar: Fingerprints.
This is a paid for tube and requires a license to
use. You can purchase here: HERE
*Mask: Becky_Mask021 by
Becky of
Secrets of the Imagination. Site is closed. You can snag the mask in my supplies HERE
*IMAGE PHOTO:
Snowy Picture you can snag at JTS Designs it’s called:
JTD_WinterShot and can be snagged at her site: HERE
Please show a little love when snagging!
*Font: Cocktail Script. I could not find
this exact font for you to use, but there are few close ones HERE:
*Plug In: VanDerLee (snow effect) a PTU Filter.
Please SAVE often!!
Let’s get started
Open up your supplies and save your mask to your
mask folder, usually in your C Drive/Programs/Corel/ Corel Paint Shop Pro
X/masks.
Now, open an 850x850 transparent canvas in Corel.
Flood fill white. *We will resize later.
Open up your scrap kit Winter Solstice and have
ready. Create a new layer and flood fill with color code:#a6b29.
Now apply the Beck_Mask021 with these settings:
Now go to your layers on the right hand of the
screen and Right Click and Merge Group.
Copy and paste a frame of choice from the kit. I
used: DCD_Square Frame01. Top toolbar-Image-Free Rotate-15 Degrees to the Left.
Copy and paste another frame of choice from the
kit. I used: DCD_Square Frame06. Top toolbar-Image-Free Rotate-15 Degrees to the
Right. Make sure this frame layer is at the top.
Open your WinterShot (Snowy Trees Photo) and resize
by 15%. Copy and paste as a new layer. Duplicate twice. Free rotate each one
just like the frames. Make sure you drag this photo underneath each frame layer.
Use your pick tool to bring in so none of the pictures are showing. See mine to
reference.
Copy and paste your tube as a new layer. Make sure
this layer is at the very top of all your layers. Free rotate to the right 15
degrees. Use your pick tool to position just right so her hand is resting on the
frame. Duplicate the layer. Drag one layer beneath your top layer of your frame
but above your photo. Now click on the top layer to make active. Use your free
hand selection tool, (usually hidden underneath your pick tool) and select
around the bottom of the tube area that is sticking out on top of the frame. Hit
delete on your keyboard. Top toolbar-Selections-Select None.
Now add any other elements from the kit you would
like. I used:
DCD_Tree with snow 3-I moved this to the left of
the taggie. See mine to reference.
DCD_Winter Bells01-Resized by 35% and placed at the
corner of your main top frame. Add any drop shadows you prefer.
If you would like to add my half transparent word
art “Winter Solstice” to the taggie, make sure you copy and paste it just above
your mask layer. So it shows like mine.
Add your name to the bottom. I used font Cocktail
Script, Size 20-Foreground Null (Transparent)-Background Black. Convert to a
Raster and add a drop shadow.
Now add any copyrights and watermarks.
Save as a JPG with the white background, or hide
your white background and save as a PNG. (Transparent Background).
~ANIMATION~
Leave Corel open with your taggie ready and open up
your Jasc Animation Shop.
Make sure to have your white background main layer
unhidden for this.
Click the top main snowy trees image; Duplicate 3 times, so you have a total of
4 images.
Hide your main image and name the others 1, 2 and 3.
Click on 1 to make active. Top toolbar-Effects-VanDerLee-Snowflakes
with these settings:
Now click on 2 to make active, apply the same
settings but hit random seed once.
Now click on 3 to make active, apply the same
settings but hit random seed once more.
Now hide 2 and 3 for now leaving 1 of this snow
effect visible.
Next animation step (we will come back to the
other)
Click on the top main tube layer. Duplicate 3 times
for a total of 4 tube images.
Hide the main tube image, and label the others 1, 2
and 3. Click on 1 to make active.
Use your free hand selection tool, with point to
point checked, go around the whisps of her hair that you would think wind would
blow, usually the edges, like my example below:
Hold the shift key down as select the pieces so
that you can do them all at the same time. If it looks bad stop and hit undo
(back arrow at the top). Make sure not to get too big of chunks of hair while
you are doing it, the smaller thin whisps looks better.
Once happy with the selections, go to the Top
Toolbar-Effects-Distortion Effects-Pinch-Strength 23. (Do not deselect yet).
Click on 2 to make active, apply the same effects except change the strength to
35, and then click 3 to make active and apply the same effects but change the
strength to 53. Now you can deselect. Top toolbar-Selections-Select None.
Hide all of these tube layers but 1. (Now you have
both of your effect layers Snowy Trees and Tube Layer 1’s showing with the rest
of the animated layers hidden.
Everything else on your taggie should be visible as
well.
Right Click, Copy Merged and Paste as a new layer
into Jasc.
Go Back to Paint Shop Pro. Hide layer 1 and unhide
layer 2 for both the tube layer and the snowy tree layer. So now you have both
2’s of both images unhidden and both 1’s of both images hidden.
Right Click, Copy Merged and Paste as after the
current layer into Jasc.
Go back to Paint Shop Pro and do the same thing
with the 2’s (hide them) and unhide the 3’s.
Right Click, Copy Merged and making sure the last
layer is selected in Jasc,
Paste after the current layer so it will be the last layer.
Now top tool bar in Jasc-Edit-Select All.
Now top tool bar in Jasc again, Animation-Frame
Properties-25.
View-Animation, to see the animation. If you’re
happy then save. Resize at this point.
*To Resize, Top Toolbar-Animation-Resize with
Pixels-600x600 or for my blog 430x430, with maintain aspect ratio checkbox
checked.
Save and you are done!!
